At our monthly annual business meeting at Larry’s Pizza last week, we all learned something new.  One of the waitresses brought a garlic chicken pizza by our table, and we were debating on whether we wanted any.  She informed us that it’ll keep the devil away.  That sounds like a good plan, so I ate a piece.  But we all thought the garlic effect applied to vampires, not the devil.  But perhaps the devil is a vampire…  I haven’t heard of that before, but I don’t have much to do with him, so I don’t know.  But I do know that I like eating at Larry’s Pizza, and apparently that makes my life better in several ways…

One of my favorite new shows is Man vs Food on the Travel Channel.  I wish I had his job!   I don’t know where you sign up for such a position, so I’ll just watch the show and dream.  

One of his challenges is to tackle the Carnivore Pizza with a friend.  (Here’s a commercial for that episode.)  The pizza comes from Big Pie in the Sky, a New York style pizzeria located in Kennesaw, GA.

If you didn’t watch the video, here’s the awesome details.  The pizza is 30″ in diameter and weighs about 11 pounds.  There is about a pound of each of the following meats: Pepperoni, Beef, Italian Sausage, Ham, and Bacon.

The restaurant will give you $250 if you and a friend can finish it in one hour.  So far no team has been up to the task.  A few people have eaten their half, but the challenge is still unbeaten.

I’d like to attempt this, but to eat 5 1/2 pounds of meats and pizza crust in an hour, I don’t think that’s happening.   Back in high school, I’m fairly sure I could’ve eaten my half.  These days, I think my metabolism has stopped completely (I sure miss it!).  I can still eat a lot, but it takes more work to burn it off.  That said, I would still like to try this challenge.

Here’s this week’s caption contest.  This one involves food — big pizzas with lots of meat.  One of the guys in the picture looks like Adam Richman of Man vs Food, but I’m not for sure, because I haven’t seen this in an episode yet.  It looks like they’re in Chicago, where there is much awesome pizza to be found.  (Oh, how I long to return to Chicago for some of their famous deep-dish pizza!)  But back to the point, regardless of who it is, write what may be going on here in this photo.

World hunger is a big problem.  So I’m going to do something about it, starting today.  I thought about all the different organizations that want my money, so they can end world hunger.  And they’re mostly good, I suspect.  But I thought of that Michael Jackson song, from back when he was cool in the ’80s, called “Man in the Mirror”.  And then I realized that I should start with myself.  You shouldn’t try to change the world without changing yourself!

So today I’m going to Larry’s Pizza, with some friends.  If you read this before lunch and want to join us, go ahead.  If you show up and can’t figure out who we are, then I reckon you just didn’t want to eat with us bad enough.  We’ll be the coolest ones there.  It’ll be that obvious, if you have discernment for such things.

Of course, there are a lot of eating options that would end my world hunger, but I might as well do it right.  There’s no pizza like their chicken-bacon-ranch.  Mmm…  And to have it (plus many others) in the all-you-can-eat format makes it extra awesome.

The staff of Buffet o’ Blog are going to Larry’s Pizza tomorrow for lunch, so it’s guaranteed to be a good time.  Yesterday we were discussing how great their pizza is and how easy it is to eat more food than normal.  So our Senior Statistics Correspondent, Turtle Dundee, created a formula using simple math that explains why it’s okay to eat more than normal there.  Here’s the computational sequence (don’t worry, it won’t give you a headache — it’s quite simple, really):

So even though we’re going to Larry’s tomorrow, I figure that’s really only 1.75 meals away.  There’s lunch today, that’s a full meal.  Then dinner tonight, eating a bit less than usual that’s .70 of a meal.  Breakfast tomorrow is just a nibble, that’s .05 of a meal.  Then for lunch tomorrow I’m 1.25 meals short, so that’s 2.25 meals for lunch.  And since nobody wants to eat dinner after Larry’s, that puts me up to 3.25 meals for lunch.

That would actually make a good slogan for them: Larry’s Pizza — It’s 3.25 meals good.

That makes sense to me!  For those of you who skipped over the numbers and don’t want to apply them in your head, I’ll take care of the math for you.  If a normal serving size is 4 pieces (which seems low to me, but we’ll start with that), then 4 times 3.25 equals 13 pieces of pizza.  If your normal serving size is 6 pieces, then applying that equation would result in 19.5 pieces of pizza, which is quite a haul for one meal!

Feel free to join us there for lunch tomorrow.  I guarantee it’ll be a good time.  If you’re wondering how to find us, just use these clues: 1) it’ll be all guys at one table; 2) the pizzas of choice will have lots of dead animals on them; 3) there will be randomness and laughing to overflow.  Oh, and we’ll be the coolest people there.  So you shouldn’t have any difficulty in recognizing us.  (We don’t put our pictures on the blog because this site already exceeds the daily recommended coolness quotient, and that might put us over the top.)
