caption contest, dumping balls in water

Standard

My week of stuff (i.e., vacation) is over, so the frequency of posts should return to normal now.  Starting this week will be a caption contest, as is custom.  This week’s photo features men in uniform dumping black plastic balls into the water.  Is this related to the current news of BP’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico?  Or is it something completely unrelated?  You get to decide.  Leave a comment saying what you think is going on.  The only rules are that it must be clean, and try to make it funny.

  1. BP hired workers to dump these black balls into the ocean near popular beaches, so they could say it’s not oil but just harmless trash from some other company. Sure, it’s a dumb idea, but it’s better than everything else they’ve tried so far…

  2. To keep people from swimming in the water hazards, the country club had to resort to artificial tar balls.

  3. The Important Evil Genius saw the oil spill as an opportunity to dispose of all these black plastic balls he had leftover from a failed plot to takeover the world. He figured no one would notice, given all the oil gushing into the Gulf right now…

    • This was the first installment (about 400,000) of 3 million plastic black balls to be dumped in Ivanhoe’s water supply (near Los Angeles). It’s to protect the water from sunlight.

      • Looks like they’ve foiled another of the Important Evil Genius’ schemes. With no sunlight in the water, his armada of solar powered minnows will be useless!
