Who wouldn’t want a flamethrower?

Standard

I have my computer setup to rotate through a certain folder of pictures for my wallpaper, and recently this was the picture:

Click image for a larger version (which makes a great wallpaper).

My wife came in the room, and I pointed to this and said I want one of these for Christmas.  Without missing a beat, she asked, “What would you do with it?”  I figured I shouldn’t get too elaborate (because that might concern her), so I said, “To burn stuff.”  Vague, I know, but women seem to not appreciate things like flamethrowers…  I don’t get it — how could it not be awesome?  There’s no shortage of ideas that would be awesome to try if I had a flamethrower (especially a military-grade flamethrower like the one shown above).

What would you do if you had a flamethrower?

caption contest, guy watching professional cleanup crew

Standard

Another week, another caption contest.  This week’s photo features an older guy watching what looks like professional cleaners or a HAZMAT team or scientists.  These guys have masks and air tanks, so it looks serious.  Yet the older man doesn’t appear concerned.  So who knows what’s going on?  It’s up to you to write the story behind this picture.  Remember, you can frame the context however you want, so the sky’s the limit.  Have fun!

caption contest, dog in Superman costume

Standard

Like clockwork, here’s this week’s caption contest.   (Actually, since it’s later than normal, the clock might be broken.)   This time the photo is of a person walking their dog, which is wearing a Superman costume.   It’s up to you to write something funny to go with this picture.  You can write from the owner’s perspective, the dog’s point-of-view, anyone watching, or even just general commentary or jokes or puns.

caption contest, contraption from 1911

Standard

Now that the busyness of the holiday season is over, we can get back to normal around here.   And part of normal is a weekly caption contest.   (Thanks to those of you who noticed we missed the last two weeks — it’s nice that someone actually noticed!   I knew there were people who actually read this!)

This week’s photo is an old black-and-white / sepia-tone picture from 1911.  It’s a man holding some type of contraption — I don’t know what it is, so you get to make it up.  You can also explain who he is and what he’s up to.  Is that his invention?  Is it to make life better?  Is it for a prank?  Is it part of some world domination scheme?  You get to decide.  So think up something funny to explain this picture.  Remember, you can create your own context to fit the story.  You can even set the scenario in modern times (or include a time machine, which has a lot of potential).

caption contest, Santa parade in NYC

Standard

For this week’s caption contest, we’re going to feature a Christmas / holiday themed picture.  Here is a parade of Santa Clauses, walking down the street in New York City.  (NEW YORK CITY?!?)  So what is the purpose of it?  Is there a special occasion, or is it a secret mission?  Is it a conspiracy?  What are the onlookers thinking?  What should be done about this situation?

caption contest, man and dog begging

Standard

Well, if it isn’t time for another caption contest!  We haven’t even exhausted the last one yet, but surely some of you can handle two at a time, right?  Anyway, this week’s photo is of a man and a dog begging for food.  Why do you suppose they’re begging?  What might they be thinking?  What might a passerby think?  Or what kind of joke can you make about it?

caption contest, Volkswagen Bug modded way too much

Standard

This week’s caption contest features an inanimate object that moves.  🙂  It’s a Volkswagen Beetle (also known as a Volkswagen Bug), similar to Herbie.  It’s been heavily modded / junked / pimped-out / whatever you want to call it.  Why would someone do this to their car?  I don’t know.  Perhaps you can explain.  You can write a caption from any perspective — the car’s owner, the spouse or children of the car’s owner, the car itself, someone seeing this on the road, an antique car collector, etc.
